About Our Location
Our studio is located in the vibrant Bedminster area of Bristol, easily accessible by public transport and with on-street parking available nearby. The building is a converted Victorian commercial space that we've transformed into a purpose-built music teaching facility.
We're a five-minute walk from Bedminster train station and well-served by several bus routes including the 24, 75, and 76. If you're driving, there's free parking on surrounding residential streets, though we recommend checking signage for any restrictions during peak hours.
The studio entrance is at ground level with no steps, and all our teaching rooms are on the ground floor, making the space fully accessible. We have a comfortable waiting area with seating and reading materials for those arriving early or waiting for students.
Finding Us
Meadow Lane runs parallel to North Street, Bedminster's main shopping thoroughfare. We're between the junction with Raymond Road and Dean Lane. Our building has a dark green door with a brass plaque reading "Slippin Ocu Music School" — easy to spot once you're on the street.
From Bedminster station, exit onto Dalby Avenue and turn left. Follow Dalby Avenue until it meets North Street, then turn right. Take the first left onto Meadow Lane and we're about 50 metres down on the left-hand side.
If you're coming from central Bristol, the journey takes approximately 15 minutes by bus or 20 minutes walking across Prince Street Bridge.
What to Expect When Visiting
First-Time Visitors
If you're visiting to discuss lessons or tour the facility, we recommend emailing ahead to arrange a convenient time. While our doors are open during business hours, individual teaching sessions are taking place throughout the day, and scheduling ensures someone can give you proper attention.
Tours typically take 15-20 minutes and include a look at our teaching rooms, a conversation about your musical interests, and an opportunity to meet some of our instructors if they're available between lessons.
Current Students
Please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled lesson time. This gives you a moment to settle in the waiting area and ensures your teacher can start promptly. If you're running late, a quick email or text to your instructor is appreciated — we'll always fit in your full lesson time when possible, but advance notice helps us adjust the schedule.
Students are welcome to use the waiting area before and after lessons. We ask that you keep noise to a minimum out of respect for ongoing sessions in the teaching rooms.
Parents and Guardians
Parents are welcome to wait in our reception area during their child's lesson. We have comfortable seating, and you're free to work, read, or simply relax. For very young students (under 8), some parents prefer to sit in on the first few lessons until their child feels comfortable, which we're happy to accommodate.
We also understand that some parents prefer to run errands during lesson time. The surrounding area has several cafes, shops, and a library within a few minutes' walk if you'd rather return just before the lesson ends.
Before You Email
We aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours during the week, and 48 hours over weekends. Here are answers to some questions you might have:
Email us describing what draws you to music — whether it's a particular sound, a desire to accompany yourself while singing, or simply curiosity. We can have a conversation about which instruments might suit your interests, lifestyle, and physical considerations. There's no obligation, and we're happy to offer guidance even if you don't immediately book lessons.
Send an email to [email protected] telling us which instrument you're interested in, your experience level (or lack thereof), and your general availability. We'll match you with an appropriate teacher and send you their available time slots. Once you've chosen a time, we'll confirm the booking and send details about what to bring to your first session.
Due to privacy considerations for our current students, we don't offer lesson observations. However, we're happy to arrange a brief meeting with a potential teacher before you book, so you can get a sense of their personality and approach. Many people find this informal chat reassuring.
Yes. Gift vouchers for individual lessons or lesson packages make thoughtful presents. Email us with the amount or number of lessons you'd like to gift, and we'll send you a voucher that can be redeemed by the recipient. Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
Please let us know what you need and we'll do our best to accommodate. Our building is step-free with an accessible toilet, and all teaching rooms are on the ground floor. If you have specific requirements around communication, learning style, or physical adjustments, we'll work with you to ensure lessons are comfortable and effective.
About Slippin Ocu
Established in 2011, Slippin Ocu has grown from a single piano teacher working out of a small studio to a comprehensive music school serving hundreds of students annually. We specialise in one-to-one instruction across a wide range of instruments, taught by professional musicians who are equally passionate about performing and teaching.
Our approach balances technical rigour with musical joy. We believe learning should be challenging but never discouraging, structured but never rigid. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced player seeking refinement, we tailor our teaching to your individual goals and learning style.
All our instructors hold music degrees or equivalent professional credentials, and those teaching children hold current enhanced DBS certificates. We're registered as an examination centre for both ABRSM and Trinity College London, allowing our students to take graded exams on-site in a familiar environment.
